Ensim Unify is a systems management software solution that optimizes IT infrastructure through centralized provisioning, automation, and delegated self-services tools available via a web interface. Focusing on key infrastructure areas, such as Active Directory, Exchange and mobility applications, Unify enables enterprises to gain a common framework and a set of processes that streamlines the management of complex applications. Ensim Unify Enterprise Edition version 2.5 includes the following new features: Password Manager 2.5 New in Password Manager 2.5 is the ability to allow employees to reset their passwords from the Windows® log-in prompt. This occurs in situations where an employee has forgotten their password, can’t log-in to any other system, and is stuck at the Windows log-in. Password Manager 2.5 supports “Graphical Identification and Authentication” (GINA) extensions that can be made available from the self- service portal. Active Directory Manager 2.5 Fine Grain Role Delegation: allows system administrator roles to be restricted by organizational unit (OU). This further simplifies AD management and enhances security by using the OU hierarchy to precisely limit access rights to make configuration changes within AD. Administrators can now restrict access to specific OUs, instead of giving them access to all the objects in Active Directory. Simplified Policy-based Provisioning: Auto setup simplifies using IT policy to define user templates. “Auto setup” now automatically configures end-users home folder, logon script, and home drive. In addition, AD administrators can now create new templates by cloning existing templates where appropriate. Customizable Provisioning Policies: System administrators can now customize the user account creation and provisioning process by automatically configuring approved user name and display name patterns, as well as specified Active Directory attributes. In addition, strong password policies for all users can be established during the user account creation process. Change & Audit Logs: AD Manager already tracks the status of each change request made against AD. With version 2.5, we also create a complete log of all changes made to each individual object. All this is delivered in an easy to read form for quick analysis and response. So, instead of crawling through the event logs hoping an anomaly will pop-up, AD administrators can easily review log information through a web interface to easily spot suspicious updates done by an administrator, any changes made to an employee’s settings, including all instances of a any specific change that may need to be flagged for review or any other wild card search. Improved Alert Notification Capabilities: System administrators can now customize the action reports, including usage statistics and end-user license alerts. The system will notify specified people by sending daily or weekly action reports and usage alerts via email or SMS. The improved alert notification capability allows system administrators to configure: - Email format, encoding, and addresses for the alerts
- Service provider settings for the SMS
- Language for the automated reports and alerts
- Warning level (%) for the system status or account alerts
Support for multiple domain controllers: System administrators can now leverage Unify's preferences to access multiple domain controllers. This ordered list of domain controllers is then used by Unify to access the directory services for all operations where management and access control are desired. System administrators can easily update the priority of the domain controllers in this list as priorities change. Enhanced Web Services SDK: The usability and coverage of Unify Web Services has also been enhanced with this release. This allows medium and larger organizations to provide a much more seamless integration experience across their application infrastructure by allowing them to bring a broader variety of web-based and legacy applications under the Unify management umbrella. Mobility Manager 2.5 Windows MobileDevices Out-of-the-box Unify Mobility Manager 2.5 manages a wide array of smartphones – including Blackberry and Windows Mobile. For Windows Mobile - Employees can now lock or remote wipe their windows mobile devices individually from their self-service portal. This helps ensure a rapid response, securing sensitive corporate data in the event the device is lost or stolen. Blackberry Devices Mobility Manager 2.5 improves its support for customizable provisioning & de-provisioning through BES. For example, BES account provisioning can be customized to auto-generate a random device pin and activation password and can be used by an employee from the self-service portal to activate their device. Similarly, BES account termination process can be customized according to business rules to automatically lock the blackberry device, conduct a remote wipe of all data onthe device, and/or reset the activation password for the user, preventing access to any data on the device in the event it’s lost or stolen. All accomplished without requiring intervention from an IT administrator. MS Exchange Manager 2.5 Ensim Unify’s Exchange Manager allows senior IT administrators to set policies that work hand-in-hand with ActiveDirectory to protect the integrity of your entire Exchange environment. All Exchange management tasks are safely and securely performed in Unify’s web-based console according to role-based permissions set by senior IT. You can meet your uptime guarantees, and senior IT can focus on strategic projects with the peace of mind that comes from knowing junior administrators cannot break Exchange. With version 2.5 Ensim has enhanced the functionality even more by adding: Improved Group Management: Group management is one of the most important collaboration capabilities in Exchange. Unify Enterprise Exchange Manager has completed an extensive update that will provide administrators and end users with more control and flexibility in managing groups in Exchange. The key capabilities include: - Group owners can now configure sender’s restrictions on group allowing them to control group posting privileges.
- Employees and administrators can save time by subscribing external vendors to groups directly from the web-based interface without going through the hassle of creating “Contact” objects in Active Directory.
Customizable Provisioning & De-provisioning Mailbox Policies: system administrators can now use their work-flow style business requirements to customize mailbox provisioning and de-provisioning processes. For example, mailbox provisioning can be customized to configure multiple email aliases for the user. Similarly a mailbox de-provisioning process can be customized to automatically: - Hide the mailbox from global address list
- Delegate mailbox access permissions to employee’s manager or a selected group of users
- Setup email forwarding to manager or a select group of users
- Administrators can also configure a dynamic rule-based membership for groups. These rules help eliminate manual updates to user accounts allowing them to be promoted or moved from one project/locationto another.
Support for Resource Mailboxes: administrators can easily setup conference room or equipment mailboxes and enable automatic booking for these resources.
