Eliminating Zombies - Group Lifecycle Management and the Auto-Expire Feature
We all know that groups and distribution lists are created with the best of intentions. They live for a while but often end up being unused and forgotten. These groups are rarely, if ever, removed or deleted. They just slowly pile up. Not a pretty picture.
Over time, as more and more inactive groups pile up, they consume increasing volumes of storage space. Purging unused groups is a manual, time-consuming process for an IT organization with many other priorities. As a result, they rarely get around to cleaning up. Ensim Unify’s Auto-expire feature automatically deletes a group if no activity has taken place within a set period of time, such as one year. Auto expire can also be configured to send an email to the group owner after a predetermined period of inactivity, advising deletion of the group by a certain date if no response is received. In either case, the process of expiring inactive groups is substantially automated.
